Think of Clothing to Produce and Sell

October 11, 2018 By eluxeca

Starting a clothing line or designer clothing business can be a great idea to create unique items and earn a living at the same time. What you need to do is think of the clothing you want to produce and sell, choose a business model that works best, develop a sound business plan, and apply for financing.

Business Model

There are three basic business models to look into – custom-cut and sew, private label, and print on demand. Print on demand is the easiest model for a start-up, and the costs are low compared to the other two.

Think of Clothing to Produce and Sell

There are plenty of options when it comes to clothing and apparel, depending on your potential customers and target market. Examples include dresses, pants, hoodies, long and short sleeve shirts, bridal dresses and accessories.

Equipment

When it comes to equipment, what you need depends on the clothing or apparel you plan to sell. If you want to make t-shirts, for example, you will need a good printer. In general, to start a clothing business, you will need things like an ironing board, tape, chalks, pins, needles, knives, scissors, a knitting or sewing machine, etc. If you plan on starting a manufacturing business, then you will need manufacturing equipment such as cutting and knitting equipment and sewing and pressing machines, including button hole sewing machines, pocket sewer machines, finishing machines, two-needle lock stitch machines, and others.

Develop a Business Plan

Once you think of clothing and apparel to sell and the equipment you need to this end, it is time to develop a sound business plan to prove financial institutions that you are a trustworthy customer. A comprehensive business plan covers important details such as your mission and objectives, keys to success, start-up and executive summary, company ownership, start-up funding, and more. It is important to list start-up expenses such as business insurance, utility bills, business supplies, equipment, promotion and advertising expenses, and others. Other details to cover include future products, market trends and needs, industry analysis, and pricing and marketing strategy. It is a good idea to include a sales forecast for different items, including hats and belts, t-shirts, pants, dresses, and so on.

Sources of Financing

Depending on your financial requirements, there are different sources to look into, including loans by private providers such as credit unions, finance companies, and banks. A loan from a private provider is one alternative to consider, and the main types are secured loans (click here) and unsecured loans. Financial institutions offer a host of business solutions such as equipment leasing, business lines of credit, and start-up loans.  Applicants are offered low-cost loans to cover eligible expenses such as installation and transportation, equipment, non-refundable taxes. Reimbursements, refunds, discounts, and grants must be excluded from the costs. Other options to finance your business  (click here) include crowdfunding, angel investors, bootstrapping, self-financing, and loans from friends and family. The type of financing for your business depends on your business model, location, cost of equipment, and other factors. There are two types of crowdfunding models, one being debt/equity funding, and the other – reward/donation funding. You can opt for equity crowdfunding in provinces such as Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia.

Finally, it is always a good idea to have a business credit card (click here) with a competitive interest rate, long grace period, and high credit limit. This is one way to pay day-to-day and operational expenses.

Women’s Designer Clothing Trends

September 5, 2018 By eluxeca

Each season designers and stylists set fashion trends for styles, colors, silhouettes, and fabrics for women’s designer clothing. Bold colors, florals, sequin, glitter, stripes and chess, and transparent fabrics are trendy in summer 2018.

Fashion Trends and Colors and Shades

This summer yellow is a trendy color, and designers such as Carolina Herrera, Elle Saab, and Ralph Russo feature yellow in their collections. Candy is also a trendy color this summer, featured in the collections of designers such as Ralph Russo, Preen, Channel, and others. Gucci, Dior, and Versace showcase women’s wear with animal print. These trends are in style in Canada as well. Saturated colors also appear in women’s designer clothing this year, including ruby red, luxe purple, canary yellow, and others. While red and pink are considered clashing colors, this is also a trendy combination, for example, a red blouse and a pink skirt or pants. If you want to start small, you can choose a red dress or skirt and a pink hat, purse, or another accessory. Stripes, fringes, floral fabrics, and even plastic are trendy in spring and summer 2018.

Shapes and Silhouettes

Monograms and other symbols are prominent this year, including the OG symbol, interlocking F and G, and the double G.

Trench coats of the peek-a-boo type appear in many collections in summer 2018. Designers also feature trench coats with straps and pockets as well as coats mad from vinyl. Trench coats come in different colors and shades, including red, grey, dark blue, pink, and others. Pencil skirts are also fashionable and easily match with a pair of sneakers or flats for a more informal, party, and out-of-office look. Designers feature pencil skirts in black, red, and other colors. Dark-wash denim is trendy again, and you can easily pair it with a denim shirt or jacket. A pair of high heels and a dark-wash denim dress is also a great combination for more informal occasions. Designers feature mid rise straight jeans and shaping skinny jeans, matched with denim shirts and blouses in different colors.

Canadian Designers Setting Clothing Trends

Canadian designers such as Christopher Bates, Hendrixroe, and others showcase military-style clothing such as metallic jackets and military-style jackets. When it comes to formal wear, wearing a multi-colored pantsuit is a way to impress and make a bold statement. Suits in more subtle and muted colors are also trendy and ideal for formal occasions and work settings. Whether working as a lawyer, CEO, or bank manager, a suit in more muted colors, combined with a pair of heels and accessories in red, blue, or yellow, makes for the perfect combination. Fashion houses such as Unttld (https://www.unttld.ca/) feature suits in subdued and muted colors while designer Tara Rivas experiments with and showcases multicolored pantsuits. Unttld features custom-printed pencil skirts, Japanese stretch crepe skirts, shirt dresses made from striped chiffon and black crepe, and one sleeve, sari-type formal dresses. Formal dresses with maxi sleeves are also featured in this year’s collection, fitted with self-tie ribbons at the waist and neck. Speaking of pants and trousers, you can opt for slim fit trousers, trousers with white and black stripes, Japanese stretch crepe slim trousers, or high-waisted pants. Pants and trousers are made from different fabrics and combinations of fabrics, including polyester and triacetate, and fitted with zippers, silver metal rings, and other details.
